Step-by-Step Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and prepare a baking dish by greasing it generously with butter.
- Cut your stale French bread or baguette into one-inch cubes and place them evenly into the prepared baking dish.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until smooth and well combined.
- Pour the custard mixture evenly over the cubed bread, using a spatula to ensure every piece is well-soaked. Let sit for about 10 minutes.
- If using raisins, sprinkle them over the top of the bread mixture now.
- Dot the top of the soaked bread pudding with small pieces of butter.
- Place the baking dish in your preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown on top.
- While your bread pudding is baking, prepare the rum sauce by melting butter, sugar, and rum in a saucepan until sugar dissolves.
- Allow the bread pudding to cool for a few minutes before serving, drizzled with the rum sauce.

Notes
Use stale bread for best results. Allow soaking time for even texture and flavor.
