- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add macaroni pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, about 7-8 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter over medium heat. Whisk in 4 tablespoons of all-purpose flour and cook for 2-3 minutes until golden.
- Gradually add 3 cups of whole milk while whisking continuously. Cook until thickened and coats the back of a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.
