Step-by-Step Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan with butter or cooking spray.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the softened unsalted butter and cream cheese. Use a hand mixer on medium speed to cream until smooth and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Gradually add the whole egg and egg yolk to the creamed mixture. Beat on low speed until thoroughly incorporated.
- Sift the icing sugar into the mixing bowl with the wet ingredients and mix on low speed until just combined, about 1-2 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, folding gently until just combined.
- Fold in the chopped pecans until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Bake for about 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean.
- Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes before slicing.

Notes
Using room temperature ingredients allows for better incorporation. Sifting icing sugar prevents lumps, and avoid overmixing for the best texture.
