Ingredients
  

For the Herb Butter
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter softened; substitute with margarine for dairy-free
  • 2 cloves garlic crushed; roasting them can mellow intensity
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill can be replaced with parsley
For the Sandwich
  • 1 lb ribeye steak consider sirloin or NY strip for different flavors
  • to taste salt essential for elevating flavor
  • 1 yellow onion sweetens when caramelized; can omit
  • 4 slices Havarti cheese Swiss or Monterey Jack can be used

Method
 

Directions
  1. In a small bowl, mix 4 tablespoons of softened unsalted butter with 2 crushed garlic cloves and 2 tablespoons of finely chopped fresh dill until creamy and fragrant.
  2. Partially freeze the 1 lb steak for about 30 minutes, then slice against the grain into ¼-inch thick strips. Toss with salt.
  3. Heat a large skillet over high heat and add a tablespoon of cooking oil. Cook the seasoned steak strips for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
  4. In the same skillet, add sliced yellow onions and cook for about 8-10 minutes until soft and golden brown.
  5. Slice the baguette in half lengthwise and spread the garlic herb butter on both sides.
  6. Layer the cooked steak strips on one side of the buttered baguette, followed by caramelized onions and top with 4 slices of Havarti cheese.
  7. Preheat your broiler on high, place the assembled sandwich on a baking sheet, and broil for about 2 minutes until the cheese bubbles.
  8. Carefully remove the sandwich from the oven, cut it in half, and serve immediately.
